Universal Infection Prevention and Control

The Universal Infection Prevention and Control Training is intended to establish greater understanding of the practices and procedures that health care facilities use to prevent and control infections in their patients and personnel. It will help to develop and improve surveyor skill in surveying facilities to ensure compliance with regulations and requirements concerning these practices and procedures. This training is designed to be used by surveyors of all skill levels, as well as non-surveying staff responsible for reviewing surveys.

Training Objectives: On completion of this training, you will be able to identify:

  • Key events that led to changes in the survey of infection prevention and control.
  • The components of an effective infection control program.
  • The components of an effective infection control program for high mortality rate infections.


Training Duration: 28 hours

Completion Requirements: This self-paced UIPC Training includes a mandatory pretest, 2 learning modules, a mandatory posttest, and a CMS-approved training evaluation. Both the posttest and the evaluation must be completed to generate a certificate of completion to earn training CEUs. To pass the UIPC Training, you must score a minimum of 80% on the course posttest.
