The Transplant Program Basic Training is intended to establish and develop surveyors’ skills and understanding of transplant programs. It will help to enhance surveyors’ overall ability to correctly document deficiencies and survey transplant program centers for compliance with Medicare Conditions of Participation (CoPs).

Training Objectives: On completion of this training, you will be able to:

  • Provide a basic understanding of the additional CoPs for organ transplant program centers.
  • Integrate organ transplant program foundation documents into surveyor practice.
  • Apply knowledge of performing organ transplant program survey activities.
  • Make accurate and defensible compliance decisions.
  • Document deficiencies in a manner consistent with CMS’s Principles of Documentation (PODs).


Training Duration: 24 hours

Completion Requirements: This self-paced Transplant Program Basic Training includes a mandatory pretest, 6 learning modules, a mandatory posttest, and a CMS-approved training evaluation. Both the posttest and the evaluation must be completed to generate a certificate of completion to earn training CEUs. To pass the Transplant Program Basic Training, you must score a minimum of 80% on the course posttest.
