Training Description

This LSC Transition Course intends to help fire and life safety surveyors transition from using the 2000 edition of the LSC to the 2012 edition of the LSC. The training will help familiarize surveyors with the significant changes to regulations and readability throughout the LSC. This training will aid learners in developing surveyor skills and proficiency.

Training Objectives: On completion of this training, you will be able to identify 2012 Life Safety Code requirements associated with:

  • CMS Policy and Regulations.
  • Health Care Occupancies (HCOs).
  • Ambulatory HCOs.
  • Residential Board and Care Occupancies.
  • Building Rehabilitation.
  • National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 99.
  • Updates to K-Tag numbering system associated with CMS-2786 forms.


Training Duration: 20 hours
Completion Requirements: This self-paced LSC Transition Course includes a mandatory pretest, seven learning modules, a mandatory posttest, and a CMS-approved training evaluation. Both the posttest and the evaluation must be completed to generate a certificate of completion. To pass the LSC Transition Course, you must score a minimum of 80 percent on the training posttest.
