Training Description
This HBT Part 1 training is intended to establish the basic knowledge and skills required for surveying hospitals for compliance with Medicare Hospital CoPs. This training builds on the Introduction to Surveying for Non-Long Term Care and Principles of Documentation for Non-Long Term Care in developing surveyor proficiency with conducting CoP compliance surveys in hospitals.
Note that additional CoPs are covered in HBT Part 2. A surveyor who has completed HBT Part 1 but not Part 2 may function as part of a survey team but may only survey for CoPs covered in HBT Part 1.
Training Objectives: On completion of this training, you will be able to:
- Identify the hospital regulatory and guidance material used during a hospital survey to determine an entity’s compliance with the CoPs.
- Conduct a hospital survey in accordance with the CoPs and procedures described in the State Operations Manual Appendix A—Survey Protocol, Regulations and Interpretive Guidelines for Hospitals.
- Conduct a health complaint investigation in accordance with the CoPs and applicable survey procedures.
- Identify, using appropriate survey methods, whether a hospital complies with multiple types of CoPs regulations.
- Identify correct decision-making strategies based on survey observations and findings.
Training Duration: 52 hours
Completion Requirements: This self-paced HBT Part 1 training includes 3 mandatory phased pretests, 10 learning modules split into 3 phases, a mandatory posttest, and a CMS-approved training evaluation. Both the posttest and the evaluation must be completed to generate a certificate of completion to earn training CEUs. To pass the HBT Part 1 training, you must score a minimum of 80% on the training posttest.
