Training Description

The EP Basic Training is intended to establish your knowledge of Federal EP regulations and your ability to identify circumstances of noncompliance with the individual Federal regulations for each affected provider and supplier type. This training focuses on the use of the electronic Code of Federal Regulations and the survey process in State Operations Manual Appendix Z, Emergency Preparedness for All Provider and Certified Supplier Types Interpretive Guidance. Compliance with EP regulations is a factor for facilities’ eligibility for funding from CMS. This training is intended to develop your proficiency with conducting EP surveys and build your understanding of the way the EP regulations overlap across multiple provider types.

Training Objectives: On completion of these lessons, you will be able to:

  • Identify background events and initiatives that led to development of the emergency preparedness rule and the four core elements central to its requirements.
  • Identify emergency preparedness requirements and the survey procedures for assessing compliance with those requirements for all provider and supplier types.

Training Duration: 24 hours

Completion Requirements: This self-paced training includes a mandatory pretest, two learning modules, a mandatory posttest, and a CMS-approved training evaluation. Both the posttest and evaluation must be completed to generate a certificate of completion and earn training continuing education units (CEUs). To pass the EP Basic Training, you must score a minimum of 80% on the training posttest.

Email for Questions: The training is available on demand online 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
