Training Description

This CMHC Basic Training is intended to provide surveyors the knowledge and skills to survey a CMHC facility. A CMHC provides outpatient services for children and the elderly, persons with persistent mental illness, and local individuals released from inpatient facilities. This training includes definitions of important CMHC terminology and expands upon survey process skills covered in prior trainings. The CMHC Basic Training focuses on the survey process specifically as it pertains to CMHC, including the CoPs that apply to CMHC.

Training Objectives: On completion of this training, you will be able to:

  • Identify the fundamental characteristics of and terminology related to CMHCs.
  • Define the regulatory framework supporting CMHCs.


Training Duration: 24 hours

Completion Requirements: This self-paced CMHC Basic Training includes a mandatory pretest, six learning modules, a mandatory posttest, and a CMS-approved training evaluation. Both the posttest and the evaluation must be completed to generate a certificate of completion to earn training CEUs. To pass the CMHC Basic Training, you must score a minimum of 80 percent on the training posttest.
