Training Name: Complaint and Incident Intake and Triage (CIIT)

Training Description: This CIIT training intends to establish surveyor understanding of the intake and triage processes. These processes govern how a State Agency receives and prioritizes complaint and incident reports. This training will aid you in developing your surveyor skills and proficiency.

Training Objectives: On completion of this training, you will be able to:

  • Identify the intent of the Complaint and Incident Report Intake and Triage process.
  • Apply key terminology.
  • Identify the information required for an intake.
  • List the steps required to triage complaints and incidents.


Training Duration: 4 hours

Completion Requirements: This self-paced CIIT training includes a mandatory pretest, two learning modules, a mandatory posttest, and a CMS-approved training evaluation. Both the posttest and the evaluation must be completed to generate a certificate of completion. To pass the CIIT training, you must score a minimum of 80 percent on the training posttest.
