Prima Facie Evidence

Image shows a photo of an open dictionary.

Prima facie evidence, or at first sight evidence, refers to evidence or proof that is:

  • Good & sufficient evidence on its face
  • Sufficient to establish given facts or a group of facts

If it is not rebutted or contradicted, prima facie evidence will remain sufficient.

However, if it is rebutted or contradicted, prima facie evidence must be sufficient enough to sustain judgment in favor of the issue that it supports.
