Training Description

This CMS Legionella and Other Waterborne Pathogens Webinar intends to provide information related to Legionella and other recognized waterborne opportunistic pathogens associated with disease outbreaks in health care facilities. The webinar, led by Karen Hoffman, Infection Preventionist and consultant to the Survey and Certification Group at CMS, reviews nationally accepted standards of practice from expert organizations such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) to prevent infections due to opportunistic waterborne pathogens from facility premise plumbing.

This webinar is provided for surveyors to assess hospitals, critical access hospitals, and nursing homes on their policies and procedures for water management implementation. Policies and procedures must include a facility risk assessment, water management program, and testing protocols. The webinar intends to help clarify what surveyors should assess and which elements contribute to an effective water management plan.
