Training Description

This training is designed to provide surveyors with advanced knowledge and skills needed to survey difficult and nuanced cases involving EMTALA in hospitals, in accordance with CMS regulations and requirements.

Training Objectives: On completion of this training, you will be able to:

  • Analyze effective EMTALA surveyor skills through scenario simulations.
  • Apply regulatory knowledge to complete simulated EMTALA investigations.
  • Identify accurate and defensible fact-finding decisions through activities to complete Form CMS-2567, Statement of Deficiencies and Plan of Correction.


Training Duration: 5 hours

Completion Requirements: This self-paced EMTALA Advanced Training includes a mandatory pretest, two learning modules, a mandatory posttest, and a CMS-approved training evaluation. Both the posttest and the evaluation must be completed to generate a certificate of completion to earn training CEUs. To pass the EMTALA Advanced Training, you must score a minimum of 80% on the training posttest.
